SRM CGPA Calculator
SRM Institute of Science and Technology uses a 10-point CGPA scale: O (10), A+ (9), A (8), B+ (7), B (6), C (5), D (4 — pass), F (0 — fail). Enter each subject with its credits and grade letter to compute SRM CGPA. Conversion to percentage uses CGPA × 10 (per SRM transcript convention).
SRM Institute of Science and Technology adopted the UGC Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for all B.Tech programs from the 2015 regulation onward. Each semester carries 24-28 credits split across theory courses (4-5 credits each), lab courses (1.5-2 credits), and electives. SGPA = Σ(credit_i × gradePoint_i) / Σ(credit_i) within one semester. CGPA = Σ(credit_j × gradePoint_j across all semesters) / Σ(all credits). SRM converts CGPA to percentage by multiplying by 10 — so a CGPA of 8.5 equals 85.0%, which is a simpler formula than the UGC-recommended CGPA × 9.5. The minimum CGPA for First Class with Distinction at SRM is 7.5. Note that arrear courses (F grade) enter the SGPA of the semester in which they are cleared, not the original semester — students carry the arrear credit debt forward until passed. Core courses from Semester 1 typically include Engineering Mathematics I (4 credits), Physics or Chemistry (3 credits + 1 credit lab), Engineering Graphics (3 credits), and Programming Fundamentals (3 credits + 1.5 credits lab).

Frequently Asked Questions
How does SRM CGPA differ from SGPA?
SGPA covers one semester; CGPA is the credit-weighted mean of all SGPAs across all completed semesters. Your semester-8 SGPA could be 9.2 while your CGPA sits at 8.4 if earlier semesters were weaker.
Does SRM use CGPA × 9.5 or CGPA × 10 to convert to percentage?
SRM transcripts officially show Percentage = CGPA × 10. This is different from the UGC standard of CGPA × 9.5 used by many other universities. When applying to jobs or graduate programs, check which formula the recipient expects.
How do arrears affect CGPA at SRM?
An F grade earns 0 grade points and pulls down the SGPA of that semester. Once cleared, the new grade replaces the F — but only in the semester the arrear was cleared, so the original bad semester remains on the transcript.
What CGPA is needed for First Class with Distinction at SRM?
7.5 CGPA or above, with no arrears pending at graduation. First Class requires CGPA 6.5–7.49. These thresholds apply for the degree certificate — individual company placement cutoffs may differ.
